Coupon Jargon

When you first begin using coupons it can be a bit confusing. The first thing you should familiarize yourself with is the coupon abbreviations. There are a lot of coupon forums and blogs that break down the deals to maximize your savings, but to use these you will need to know what all the abbreviations stand for.

  • $2/1--This means the coupon is $2.00 off one item. The dollar amount and the item amount will vary depending on coupon.
  • AC--After coupon
  • AR--After rebate
  • Blinkie--A box with a blinking light attached to stores shelves that dispenses coupons
  • BOGO--Buy one get one free
  • B1G1--Buy one get one free
  • B1G1F--Buy one get one free
  • CAT or Catalina--Coupons which print after you have made a purchase
  • CPN--Coupon
  • CRT--Cash register tape, most of the time these are on the bottom of your receipt
  • DND--Do not double
  • Double coupon-- The value of your coupon can be doubled at participating stores
  • ECB--Extra care bucks
  • ETA--Edited to add
  • ETS--Excludes trial size
  • FAR--Free after rebate
  • Filler--Items that you buy to get your total up to a certain amount or items you buy to be able to use a certain number of coupons
  • FS--Free shipping
  • GC--Gift card
  • GDA-Good deal alert
  • GM--General Mills
  • HTH--Hope this helps
  • IVC--Instant value coupon
  • IPQ--Internet printable coupon
  • IP--Internet printable coupon
  • MFG--Manufacturer
  • MFR--Manufacturer
  • MQ--Manufacturer's coupon
  • MIR--Mail-In rebate
  • NED--No expiration date
  • OOP--Out of pocket
  • OOS--Out of stock
  • OYNO--On your next order
  • P&G--Proctor & Gamble coupon insert
  • Peelie-Peel off coupon found on item
  • PSA--Prices starting at
  • Q--Coupon
  • RP--Red Plum coupon insert
  • RR--Register Rewards, prints after receipt at Walgreen's
  • SCR--Single Check Rebate
  • SS--Smart Source coupon insert
  • Stacking--Using a store coupon in addition to a manufacturer's coupon
  • Tear pad--these are tear pads found in stores on shelves and cooler doors
  • TMF--Try me free
  • UPC--Universal product code
  • UPR--Up rewards
  • WSL--While supplies last
  • WT--A coupon hanging on a product
  • Wine tag--A coupon hanging on a product
  • WYB--When you buy
  • V--Valassis coupon insert
  • YMMV-Your Milage May Vary(you may or may not be able to do a deal at a particular store)
